Acupuncture, Health Self-Defense and Modern Medicine: Two Thoughts

Oftentimes the least questioned presumptions can be misconceptions. Since an acupuncturist I practice home remedies and I actually frequently exchange referrals with western doctors. I assume that modern western medicine is irreplaceable for some things. orviax mercadolivre

With that in head, here’s Thought Leading: Special is not the same as untouchable and for health’s sake! its about time we medical consumers stop confusing the two.

Case in point: Everybody knows the down sides of antibiotics and we also know their amazing ability. A recent piece in the New York Occasions caught my attention as it tackled an untouchable supposition about antibiotics.

A typical course runs 7 to 10 days. This is a great deal of strong medicine. Really really too bad we can’t take them for say 2 or 3 days with the same effect. Or can we?

Over 4 1/2 years ago in March, 06\ an article co-authored by 15 specialists presented an interesting study. In 9 hospitals throughout the Holland doctors treated uncomplicated pneumonia with two different Amoxicillin regimes. One course of treatment lasted 3 times, the other for almost eight days. The results? Simply no difference at all. Period.

Potentially this could be a great breakthrough. However despite the multiplication of super bugs, individual amount of resistance build-up to antibiotics, high costs, etc, it seems nobody has gone away of their approach to big research dollars following this.

When Daniel Gilbert, the NYT guest factor, questioned the number of days doctors prescribe for antibiotics he came up with something so unscientific I had to chuckle. The reality is the magic of seven days and nights of antibiotics is very much that.

Congratulations to Mr. Gilbert for asking yourself an untouchable assumption and thanks to the NYT for publishing it. Gilbert notes rather conservatively that if even one supplement is unnecessary, on a typical antibiotic course: inches… millions of folks are taking at least 5 percent more medication than they actually need. ”

Dare I actually compare this to acupuncture therapy? No worries about over-prescribing, over-needling, or over responding. No super needles will be formed, nor will you develop resistance to the results. Your system requires how much treatment you need and how often you may need it. Acupuncturists are taught to let your body do the work and then let it inform the practitioner the next right steps for you.

That leads me to Consideration And second. We are all experts on certain aspects of our own bodies. Suppose we used that knowledge and applied basic self-defense techniques to our own bodies? A great acupuncturist could not expect for an improved way for folks to stay healthy.

This kind of health ninja approach would lead us to trust our instincts and seek out nature’s preventive activities, cures and remedies. We all might gather knowledge about our bodies, discover what can harm us, then when necessary, take preemptive action. We would empower themselves and gain a new appreciation of natural treatment modalities.

One reason acupuncture therapy has lasted throughout the millennia is that it stimulates the body’s self-healing abilities. It functions something like our personal immune system protecting us and assisting healing as needed.
